The Norwegian wonder kind Erling Braut Haaland has been in the rumour mill in the last few days as recent reports suggest that Real Madrid will attempt to sign the Dortmund striker during the summer transfer window.
The chances of the transfer happening are very low as Haaland just made the switch from Austria to Germany in this years’ January transfer window for €20 million after a great start to the season which saw him net 8 goals in the Champions League for RB Salzburg.
A host of clubs including Manchester United tried to sign the son of former Manchester City player Alf-Inge Haaland but the teenager decided to sign for Dortmund who was lacking firepower up front.
Upon his arrival, Haaland scored a hat-trick in his debut and has registered 12 goals in 11 appearances in all competitions. Madrid has relied on a 32-year-old Karim Benzema for goals this season as Luka Jovic has found life in Madrid difficult as has slipped down the pecking order behind Mariano Diaz.
Zidane is the process of reviving his team and has made Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba and Erling Haaland’s primary targets. With the financial fair play rules into consideration, it will be impossible for Los Blancos to sign all three players. Therefore, the realistic option among the three is Haaland.
Haaland’s highest market value is believed to be €80 million but Madrid is set to submit a €75 million in offer in a bid to secure the services of the lethal finisher. It is highly unlikely that Dortmund will let him go as it seems like they are set to lose Jadon Sancho to English Premier League giants, Manchester United.
However, president Florentino Perez at the helm, Madrid have been able to sway big-name players over the years with huge sums of money that are irresistible for both the player and the parent clubs involved. Will Haaland make a shocking move? Only time would tell.
