Ghana calls off Lockdown despite rising cases of COVID-19

On Sunday 19th of April the president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has lifted the lockdown imposed on metropolitan areas of Ghana to curb the COVID 19 virus outbreak. This information was shared by the president in a Nationwide address calling an end to the lockdown.

Although the confirmed cases of the COVID 19 virus in the country is still increasing at a rapid pace. The first case of the virus was confirmed in the country on the 12th of March when two individuals were confirmed to carry the virus and have increased significantly over the past five weeks to 1042 confirmed cases and 9 deaths.

According to the president, the country has increased its ability to test for the virus and there’s been an expansion in the number of treatment and isolation centres and a better understanding of the virus which will allow the country protect its citizens from contacting the virus after the economy has resumed
