As Nigeria continues the fight against Coronavirus, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono has assured free flow and movement of food products by farmers and traders.
Nanono, who was briefing reporters after an indoor meeting with the Ministers of Interior and Police Affairs on Tuesday, said the government is making vigorous efforts to ensure appropriate food policy response.
It’s the fourth and last week of the extended lockdown in Nigeria, a measure which the government enforced to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.
This has, however, brought hunger to many Nigerians especially those whose livelihoods depend on daily earnings.
To this end, series of meetings are ongoing to plan for food security and free flow of foodstuff within the period.
The meeting with the Ministers of Interior and Police Affairs also resolved that security agencies should work within the framework of the COVID-19 Emergency Action Response Plan to develop modalities of ensuring easy movement of foodstuff, livestock and farm inputs.
It is also expected that the resolutions of the meeting will be communicated to the Chairman, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, for their information and further action.
Meanwhile, the three Ministers will convene Periodic Review Meetings to assess the situation and continue to advise the relevant authorities.
