The Management of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, has cried out over inadequate equipment available at the hospital isolation centre, which it said may be overwhelmed, if there should be a confirmed case of Coronavirus pandemic in Cross River State.

Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof. Ikpeme Ikpeme, made this known while speaking with reporters in his office on Friday in Calabar.

Ikpeme said the isolation centre of the hospital lacked personal protective equipment with only two ventilators, and there is a need for alternative power supply at the five-bed isolation centre which he said needs expansion.

The CMD explained that there is a need for Cross River State Government and public spirited individuals to come to the aid of the only hospital relied on by the state, should there be any confirmed case of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The UCTH Chief Medical Director said the isolation centre will be overwhelmed if the present situation persists and there are more than five Confirmed cases.

Cross River State Government had announced the donation of ventilators to the isolation centre of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, but the UCTH management denied the government position, saying the two ventilators at the isolation centre are from the University while the third one is at the intensive care unit of the health Institution.
