Abia Govt. extends lockdown indefinitely

The Abia State Government has extended the statewide lockdown order to contain the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, indefinitely from Monday, April 20, 2020.

Addressing reporters on Friday in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, stated that two days, Saturday and Sunday is for the people to restock food while the total lockdown resumes on Monday.

Kalu further maintained that the people are expected to use the two-day restocking window to acquire face masks as it is now compulsory to wear face masks before leaving their homes.

According to the Commissioner, the closure of the state borders is still in place while further directives have been given to those manning the borders to ensure that tighter measures are put in place.

Kalu used the opportunity to announce that the government will embark on radio and television class next week, for secondary and primary school children to enable them study from their homes.
