According to Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, the Nigerian Federal Government cannot give out funds that were contributed to the Private sector to assist in fighting the COVID 19 virus.
The funds contributed were solely for the development of the Nigerian health sector and not for financial relief for the people struggling financially during this lockdown period.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed made this announcement yesterday when he was interviewed by “Politics Nationwide,” a Nigerian radio programme that discusses the political affairs of the nation.
This announcement was in response to several comments from Nigerians insisting that some of the funds being contributed by the private sector for the development of the health care should be used to support the people who are in financial need during the period of this lockdown.
Alhaji Mohammed said that the private sector donators have made it very clear that they would not contribute cash funds to the Federal Government but will provide the needed infrastructure to the health care system to help fight the virus.
A list was shared among these donators about the types of equipment and commodities needed, such as a 30-bed isolation unit with a 10-bed intensive care unit in every state in the country.
