tottenham hotspurs take u-turn on furlough decision

Tottenham Hotspur has decided not to use the UK government’s furlough scheme which states that all Premier League clubs should exercise a reduction in wages for non-playing staff.

Spurs issued a statement on Monday that all non-playing workers would receive 100% of their wages during the months of April and May.

However, only members of the board will take wage reductions including Spurs chairman Daniel Levy who earned £7 million at the end of 2019.

This decision was influenced by the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Club who urged the board to do the right thing as these staff members were risking their lives to work for the club.

The club statement released on their website made it known that Tottenham will be the first Premier League side to equip their workers who provide essential services during this global pandemic. This initiative is a step closer to soothing the relationship between the fans and the club.

Apart from Spurs, Liverpool is the only other Premier League team to have also reverse their decision to furlough the wages of non-playing staff while Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Norwich are the only Premier League teams to announce that they will go ahead to furlough the wages of some of the non-playing staff members.
