Coronavirus: Nigeria receives UN donation

The Nigerian government has received the United Nations donations of medical equipment and supplies with N32.5m to help fight Coronavirus in the country.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika and Health Minister for State, Olorunnimbe Mamora, were on ground to receive the items.

Speaking to the reporters in Abuja, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Nigeria, Edward Kallon, said the body will continue to mobilise resources in support of the government’s National Response Strategy of containing the pandemic.

After receiving the items, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, who was represented by his Deputy, Mamora, noted that the arrival of the medical supplies and equipment will go a long way towards boosting the government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare services to manage the pandemic.

Osagie said Nigerians have the responsibilities to adhere to the recommended measures and support the government’s efforts to defeat the global disease.

The medical items include 50 A30 ventilators, modern test kits, personal protective supplies, and laboratory consumables.

This is the first batch of the £2m medical supplies while the second batch is said to have landed in Lagos.
