On Sunday, the Health Ministry in Kenya confirmed 6 new cases of the COVID-19 which made the number of cases in the country to total 197. According to Mutahi Kagwe, the Cabinet secretary for health, the new cases are from the 766 samples tested by medical practitioners in the past 24 hours.

Following a statement issued in Nairobi, Mutahi Kagwe revealed that of the 6 cases are male while the last case is a woman. Five of them are Kenyans while the last one is a foreign citizen. 3 of the cases had no travel history, 2 travelled back to Kenya from the Middle East while one of them just returned from Mombasa.

The Cabinet Secretary also disclosed that one of the cases was picked up by the country’s surveillance team while the other 5 were from mandatory quarantine centres. The age range of the new confirmed cases is 25-59.

Following the discharge of one more COVID-19 patient, the number of those discharged in the country is now 25. The death poll of COVID-19 in Kenya is now 9 following the death of a patient in Western Kenya.

According to the Cabinet Secretary for health, contact tracing for those who came in contact with the 6 patients is ongoing. Also, out of the 2,160 contacts monitored 1,660 had been discharged after testing negative to the virus.
