It is now official Kano state has recorded its first COVID-19 case on Saturday.
The State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, while announcing the case, drew the attention of residents to the seriousness of the outbreak.
Describing the case as sad development for the state, Governor Ganduje said tough measures would be adopted to ensure the virus does not spread in the state.
The hospital where the index case was initially taken to was closed and contact tracing has commenced.
Henceforth commercial tricycle operators are banned from taking more than one passenger at a time.
The Governor also hinted that he would be meeting with religious leaders and most likely congregational prayers will be discussed.
A lockdown and restriction on movement is also most likely to be imposed on Kano.
The state has closed all entry and exit points at its boundaries.
