Researchers trace recent Ebola outbreak to former Survivor

Since no news of any new cases of the ebola virus has been recorded since the 17th of February 2020 in the Democratic republic of Congo, the world health organisation has announced its plans to declare the end of the virus outbreak on the 12th of April 2020.

The first case of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo was confirmed in August 2018 and over 3444 cases of the virus was confirmed during the 19 months of the outbreak, with over 2264 deaths.

According to the World Health Organisation, 1168 people survived the virus outbreak in the country. On the 3rd of March 2020 in Beni, a city in the Democratic republic of Congo the last patient of the ebola virus was discharged from the hospital.

The largest ebola virus epidemic lasted from 2014 to 2016 spreading across several countries and killing over 11,000 people. With almost 2 months of no new cases of the virus the World Health Organisation is hopeful that this will be the last of the virus the world would see.

Vaccines to help prevent the virus, have been administered to over 300 thousand people since the second Ebola virus outbreak began in August 2018
