pregnant women dont suffer more from COVID19

According to a new study- pregnant women infected with coronavirus do not experience more severe symptoms than the general population and even more, do not infect their baby with the virus.

According to the article published in the American Journal for Obstetrics and Gynecology, the new study carried out on 43 pregnant women revealed that 80% of the pregnant women in the study i.e. about 37 women experienced mild and less severe symptoms. 15% experienced more severe symptoms. While 5% of pregnant women suffered critical diseases. The study lasted for 14 days, from March 13 to 27.

Out of 29 symptomatic pregnant women used, 25 of them experienced mild symptoms, were clinically stable with regular vital signs with no need for supplemental oxygen. Also, no babies got infected as they were tested upon delivery.

During the previous pandemics like SARS and H1N1, pregnant women had more serious complications than the general public and were even more susceptible to those pandemic diseases. They were at greater risk of death on the contraction of the disease.

The Authors of the new study admonished hospitals to test pregnant women for the COVID-19 upon admission as about 14 women used for the study had no symptoms and were only discovered during admission or during tests for obstetrical admissions.
