The COVID 19 pandemic has spread to almost every country in the world. The virus with no cure has taken the lives of over 50,000 people. This has led to a widespread fear of the virus worldwide.

In Abidjan, the commercial hub of Cote d’ Ivoire, the residents of the city demonstrated a violent protest against the newly erected COVID isolation facility.

According to some residents who have spoken out, the residents are angry with the government for building the isolation facility in a crowded residential area and they fear that it would increase the spread of COVID 19 virus in their communities.

Some parts of the isolation facility were dismantled and burned down but the Cote d’ Ivoire police quickly got the situation under control by releasing tear gas to disperse the violent protesters.

As of Monday morning on the 7th of April, the Cote d’ Ivoire government repaired the damages done to the facility and resumed its construction.

The country’s health ministry has announced to the residents that the facility was not an isolation facility but a testing facility. So far, Cote d’ Ivoire has confirmed 323 cases of the COVID 19 virus and recorded 3 deaths.
