Following the outbreak of Coronavirus in Nigeria, the Ooni of Ife announced an 8.am to 6, pm curfew for people in Ile-Ife. Ile-Ife is an ancient Yoruba city located in Osun State.
Currently, Osun has 20 confirmed cases of COVID-19 making it the third state with the most number of pandemic diseases in Nigeria.
On Wednesday Evening, Adeyeye Ogunsi sent out his town crier to go around town announcing the spiritual cleaning ‘Oro’ of Ife. Before this announcement, the Ooni disclosed two days earlier that he has a cure coronavirus.
According to him, traditional herbs can fight pandemic disease. While some Nigerians share in the traditional rulers thought, others did not. The town crier warned residents to stay confined in their homes till the spiritual cleansing is over.
Anyone who goes against this directive will be used as a sacrifice to appease the gods. According to him, the ‘Oro’ deity won’t pity anyone no matter the social class of the person that goes against this order.
Isale-Agbara, Ondo-road, Ita-Osun, Ilode, Sabo, Iwara, Iremo, Oja-ife, Arubidi among others are places the cleansing took place.
