The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has signed an Executive Order on Coronavirus measures and pronouncements tagged “Bayelsa State Infectious Disease, Emergency Prevention Regulation 2020” designed for the security and public health of the citizens.
Governor Diri, shortly after signing the Executive Order, also directed the closure of all markets except for the sales of essential commodities such as food and medical products.
The signing of the Bayelsa State Infectious Diseases, Emergency Prevention Regulations 2020 by Governor Diri was to give legal backing to measures taken to curtail the outbreak of Coronavirus in the State.
The Executive Order is in exercise of the powers conferred on the Governor, pursuant to the provisions of Section 8 of the Quarantine Act, cap. 2, laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004, having regard to the provisions of Sections 2, 3 and 4. of the Constitution.
Although, no case has been recorded in the state but the government is leaving no stone unturned as it continues to take stringent measures such as the travel restictions, closure of markets amongst others to combating the deadly pandemic.
The Governor urged residents to comply with the directives, stressing that such is the only way to avoid the outbreak of Coronavirus in the state.
