Health officials will soon begin to walk into homes to test South Africans for COVID-19. Cyril Ramaphosa the country’s president stated in his address to South Africans on Monday.

Confirmed cases continue to surge in the country with 1,326 cases and 3 recorded death. Four days ago, South Africa declared total lockdown and request citizens to stay confined in homes to slow the spread of the virus.

According to Ramaphosa, about 10000 field workers will go into towns, cities, and villages visiting homes to test residents for the COVID-19. The day this will begin wasn’t stated specifically by the president.

In his statement, those who test positive with mild symptoms will continue to remain in isolation at home or a facility set out by the government, while those with difficulty breathing and serious symptom will be transferred to hospitals.

The president also announced that an extensive tracing system will be used for contact tracing and to monitor the geographical location of the newly confirmed cases. This will help in monitoring the infection cycle and also the fight against the virus.
