The United Bank for Africa announced yesterday 26 March, a donation of more than ₦5 billion to 20 African countries which include Nigeria as a comprehensive pan-African response against the fight of coronavirus in these countries.
This will help the countries benefitting from this donation with the support needed during this trying time. The federal capital territory will receive a donation of ₦500 million, Lagos to receive $2.8 million while the other states receive ₦1.5 billion.
The donation which will provide financial assistance to the government includes also relief material supplies, critical care equipment, free telemedicine call centre facility that allows people access to medical advice and also a medical centre with free beds and ICU facilities in Lagos State.
This medical centre is managed alongside Holdings’ healthcare subsidiary, Avon Medical Hospital. Tony Elumelu the UBA Group chairman stated that this is a time for everyone to support and show solidarity.
Both business leaders and government must support each other to fight this pandemic disease especially now as the country is experiencing a rapid surge in the number of confirmed cases with limited facilities.
He also urged private sectors to work hand in hand with the government through these trying times. He commended the efforts of the government while assuring to contribute their resources to the course.
