On Wednesday, 25th of March, four cases of the COVID 19 virus were discovered in Eritrea from passengers arriving from Dubai aboard the Air Arabia flight.

All the passengers on that flight were placed under quarantine to be monitored for new cases of the COVID 19 virus.

Yesterday, Thursday, 26th of March, two more passengers on that flight were discovered to be infected with the highly contagious COVID 19 virus, summing up the number of confirmed cases of the COVID 19 virus in the country to six.

These two newly discovered patients were already under quarantine with the other passengers on the plane and reports says that the two patients are now receiving the necessary treatment and so far their conditions remain satisfactory to the health officials.

These new confirmed cases have caused the government to step up the measures they’ve been taking to curb the spread of the virus.

The government has decided to shut down all schools from the kindergarten level to the tertiary level. This newly imposed measure will begin today, Friday, 27th of March 2020.

Also, all public transportations, buses, minibuses, taxis, etc, have stopped working as of today, 27th of March. This new measure began by 6 am.

The use of public transportation for the duration of the lockdown is now punishable by law and individuals caught defying this rule will face the consequences.
