Plateau State Government says it is slashing its spendings by 40 per cent to cope with revenue cuts caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

This is as a result of the impact of deadly Coronavirus on the economy which led to the slashing the Federal Budget by N1.5 Trillion Naira to cope with the over 50% oil price drop.

This Development was part of a live broadcast by the State Governor, Simon Lalong, as an emergency executive council meeting in the state.

According to the Governor, this affects all recurrent expenditures other than salaries and pensions, specifically allowances of the government officials will be cut by 50%.

Governor Lalong, who admonished citizens in the state to brace up for the harsh economic realities and be ready to make necessary sacrifices in the coming weeks and months, said the new adjustment became necessary due to the impact of the Coronavirus.

The processes of fresh employment in the state, implementation of the new minimum wage, funding of on-going projects among others, will be affected in the interim, said the Governor.
