The last few days has seen Canada and Australia pull out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in order to protect the lives of their Athletes as their health and safety cannot be guaranteed due to the ongoing pandemic.
The United Kingdom and the United States have also hinted at pulling out. This now brings up the question of the Olympics being postponed or suspended.
A member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dick Pound, told USA today that the 2020 Olympic Games will be postponed by one year because of the coronavirus.
This would be the first time in 76 years that the Olympic Games would be postponed. The games were previously postponed due to world wars.
Dick Pound also said that deliberations would go on for four more weeks as there are different parameters yet to be finalised.
The athletes, sponsors and media partners will be affected by the postponement but it has been made clear that the safety of people is the priority of the IOC.
