The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Tanko Mohammed, has suspended the activities of the Nigerian judiciary for initial two weeks pending further information on the pandemic situation in the country.
A press statement issued on Monday by the CJN and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, NJC, said in view of the reality of Coronavirus in the country and in other to take further preventive measures, only matters that are of urgency or time-bound according to extant laws will be handled by the courts.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), had earlier recommended the immediate shutdown of the courts activities in cities with large densities such as Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and others pending further directives from the Nigerian Center for Disease Control.
