Lives may henceforth be safe at the dreaded gully at the Ikot Nkebre Community which has killed over 10 persons in the last 10 years.

This is because the World Bank is partnering the Cross River State Government to reduce the incidents of landslide and floods in 10 Communities in the state.

The project which is an intervention of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP, has commenced rebuilding the erosion sites in a bid to make lives and property at the area safe.

Speaking during the inspection of the work done put at 70%, the project Consultant from the World Bank, Ayo Adedeji, said the counterpart funds released by the Cross River Government made the success story of the project realized as structured by the World Bank.

The inhabitant community members who commended the World Bank and administration of Governor Ben Ayade for the intervention, after 14 years, called on the World Bank to consider their compensation plans as agreed.

The World Bank Assisted Progrqmme on Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project is to reduce vulnerability to soil erosion, gully environment, and targeted at sub-catchment areas including 10 communities in Cross River.
