The current Arsenal captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has a year left on his current contract which ends in 2021 and the Gabon International is set to agree on terms of a new contract.
It has been rumoured that he has rejected new offers to remain at the Emirates as he wants to play Champions League football which Arsenal cannot ensure.
The 30-year-old has been dubbed as the last gift by Arsene Wenger to the club as he joined in January 2018 while Wenger left the club at the end of the season.
Since his arrival, Auba as he has been nicknamed by teammates has been the club’s highest goal scorer as he has been in blistering form either playing through the middle or on the left wing.
Arsenal suffered a decline under the Unai Emery as the team found it difficult to win games as they confidence levels of the players dropped drastically.
Despite the team’s poor run of form, Aubamayeng was consistent. He has scored 17 goals so far and many have been crucial match winning goals which have won Arsenal three points or a point.
The team has significantly improved under Mikel Arteta who took over in December 2019.
Arsenal are currently the only unbeaten side in the Premier League in 2020. It is up to the new Arsenal boss to convince his captain and top goal scorer to remain at the team and avoid interest from Manchester United and Barcelona.
Aubamayeng remaining at Arsenal would be instrumental in the rebuilding process currently going on.
Hopefully, the club can match his ambitions and give him reasons to remain at the club.
