Hong Kong will make available electronic wrist bands for all the travellers coming into the country. These travellers would be placed under two-week quarantine with an adequate medical check.

This is in order to curb the spread of the disease and also to ascertain that travellers are actually self-quarantined. The electronic bands will be paired to be used with a smartphone from 19 March.

One of the travellers made known that the electronic band feels like an infringement on private life. Another traveller who lives in Hong Kong, Declan Chan a stylist was shocked when he was informed about the new development when he returned back.

He said he expected to just fill out a form and go ahead with self-quarantine, he was caught unawares by the electronic wrist band development. Although the form stated that travellers can share location through messaging apps with the government, he later learned the electronic band is compulsory.

While other travellers took the electronic wrist band, another passenger declined and took another flew back into another country. Passengers who agreed to remain in Hong Kong and use the electronic bands need to walk around the corners of their house to enable the government to know and track the areas of their home.

Anyone who breaches or give false information to the Department of Health will pay a fine of $5000 HKD ($644) and also 6 years in prison. According to the Hong Kong government, there is about 60,000 electronic wrist band available.
