President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the postponement of the National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020 over the Coronavirus pandemic.
The decision to cancel the sports fiesta was earlier reached after a meeting with the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, his health counterpart, Osagie Ehanire, and some experts in the Ministry of Health.
Addressing State House correspondents after briefing President Buhari on the decision to cancel the event, Dare and the Minister of State for Health, Olorunibe Mamora, said the President gave the directive to postpone the event.
The Sports Minister noted that despite the huge resources so far expended in preparation for the festival, the health and wellbeing of the sportsmen and sportswomen is of paramount importance.
