Cross River State Government says it will use sports development to unite the people of the state and Akwa Ibom state starting from cycling.

The State Governor, Ben Ayade, stated this on Saturday, when he flagged-off the 25 kilometre 1st AkwaCross Cycling competition at the Millineum park in Calabar.

Ayade, who was represented by his Deputy, Prof Ivara Esu, said the cycling which is the first of its kind, will henceforth become an annual event.

On their part, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Eric Anderson and Deputy National Coach, Cycling Federation of Nigeria, Emmanuel Onasanya, said the event is being used to preach Humanity.

The event with the theme : “Cycling for Humanity” had in attendance over four hundred cyclers from Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

The occasion was used to call for peace between Odukpani in Cross River and Itu of Akwa Ibom communities over land tussle.
