Residents of Zamfara State have been urged to cooperate and support the State Government to ensure the return of peace and tranquility in the state for socio-economic activities to thrive.
Governor Bello Matawalle made the call during a peace and reconciliation meeting with outlawed volunteer and vigilante groups to find lasting solution to the security situation in the state.
The meeting convened by the State Ministry of Security and Home Affairs is coming against the backdrop of renewed attacks, cattle rustling and kidnappings across the state.
The meeting is to enable stakeholders discuss ways of ending the prevailing security challenges in some rural communities in the state.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Maru, reassured the residents of the administration’s efforts to bring an end to the insecurity in Zamfara State.
Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Dauran, called on security operatives to be proactive, in order to secure the lives of the citizens.
The Commissioner of Police, Usman Nagogo, stressed the need for outlawed volunteer groups and recalcitrant bandits to embrace the peace deal towards ensuring the return of peace and stability in the state.
Some of the participants accused the security operatives of not being proactive in responding to distress calls.
It is hoped that the Zamfara State Government and the security agencies will implement the resolutions reached at the peace meeting to ensure a secured environment for the residents.
