Nasarawa United player, Chime Martins was confirmed dead yesterday at the hospital after a collision with a Katsina United player yesterday in an NPFL match. The engine of the ambulance at the stadium failed to start.

A Private bus that began to one of the media teams at the match then took him to the hospital after several failed attempts of CPR.

The NPFL has failed over the years to raise and maintain the standard of the Nigerian Professional League as it still suffers from regular crowd violence which results into an assault of match officials and players as the case may be.

Also, home fans attacking away fans and players because of the outcome of the game.
Other African Leagues are miles ahead of the NPFL which is one of the oldest African football leagues in existence.

Proper healthcare facilities and measures should be put in place to protect the livelihood of the players. Adequate security measures should be adopted and implemented.

The NPLF needs to dish out strict punishments to teams who default in match conduct as well. This will serve as a deterrent to the other teams in the league. The cause of Chieme Martins’ death is yet to be established. A thorough autopsy would be done in order to discover the cause of death.
