burundi kills 22 wrongdoers in pre-election violence

About 22 “Wrongdoers” were killed by the Burundi law enforcement on Tuesday 25th of February. The wrongdoers were reportedly involved in violent activities designed to cause dispute and insecurity utilizing the distraction and tension caused by the upcoming presidential election which is set to hold on the 20th of May 2020.

Two police officers were also killed during this dispute between the wrongdoers, while six of the wrongdoers were caught and have been detained. The Burundi government insist that they are trying to make this upcoming election violence-free unlike the last one.

During the last presidential election, hundreds were killed and thousands became displaced, eventually moving to neighbouring countries like Tanzania and Rwanda.

The violence from the last election stemmed from Pierre Nkurunziza, the president’s desire to run for a third term in office, which caused a disagreement with the other political parties that led to war.
