The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has bemoaned the security situation in the country and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to act swiftly to address the situation.
The council further charged the armed forces and the intelligence community to rise up to the occasion and defeat the insurgents causing havoc in some parts of the country, stressing that security and welfare of the people are the primary purposes of any responsible government.
The National Chairman, Interim Management Committee IPAC, Dr Leonard Nzenwa made the statement while addressing journalists on Wednesday, February 26 in Abuja.
Nzenwa also gave an update on IPAC’s next move to strengthen its state chapters after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, deregistered 74 political parties recently.
He directed state chapters of the council to constitute Interim Management Committee to oversee their affairs pending when elections would be conducted.
According to him, the deregistration of 74 political parties has sanitized the electoral process with the just concluded collection and submission of forms for the bye-elections in four states with only the 18 registered political parties.
He said the electoral process was carried out successfully without any logistics, administrative or legal issues that usually characterized the previous exercise in the past.
He added that IPAC would continue to partner with INEC to ensure that the March 2020 bye-elections are free, fair, credible, transparent, and peaceful.
