Mahathir Mohamed, Malaysia’s Prime Minister reportedly submitted his resignation to the King according to the Prime Minister’s office.
His resignation comes in the wake of the announcement that his political party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, will also be withdrawing from the largest political party – Pakatan Harapan formed during the ruling government after news emerged that the larger party could lose power.
Mahathir served as Prime Minister between 1981 – 2003, he has re-elected once again in 2018 after winning the general elections.
It is not yet clear if the King will accept his resignation.
