The first lady of Lesotho, Maesaiah Thabane’s court trial date has already been set for the 14th of February 2020. Maesaiah is facing murder charges for the murder of the former first lady of Lesotho, Lipelelo Thabane, who was murdered just two days before the prime minister Thomas Thabane’s second inauguration ceremony in 2017.
Nkoya Thabane, Lipelelo and Thomas Thabane’s daughter was the first person to point out Maesaiah as the culprit behind the murder.
Maesaiah Thabane has since denied the charges against her but she fled the country on the 10th of January 2020 to escape questioning and arrest which has only made her look guilty in the eyes of the law. On the 4th of February, Maesaiah returned to Lesotho and turned herself over to the police.
She was arrested on the 5th of February and has since been out on bail.
The Lesotho police claim to have a strong case against Maesaiah that would place her behind bars for good.
The prime minister Thomas Thabane has also been implicated by allegations against his wife, Maesaiah and is also being charged with the murder of his former wife Lipelelo Thabane.
Officials have demanded the resignation of Thomas Thabane but Thomas has already announced that he would be stepping down from his role as prime minister soon but he hasn’t stated when yet.
