Nigeria has so far recorded a total of 72 deaths and 472 cases of Lassa fever in the recent outbreak across the country.
This is as Lagos State became the latest to report the outbreak which has already affected 26 of the 36 states of the federation.
The Lassa fever case recorded in Lagos State was brought in by a student from Ebonyi State.
Speaking with newsmen on the situation update at about 5. 30 pm Wednesday evening, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Abayomi said they tested the patient for Lassa fever after failing to response to several treatment administered and the result came out positive on February 17, 2020.
Professor Abayomi urged residents not to panic, but to maintain a high level of personal and environmental hygiene.
He said that the contact tracing for the index had already started so as to check the spread of the virus.
With a bio level three laboratory to make diagnosis and manage infectious of high consequence, Abayomi said Lagos State was prepared for any disease outbreak.
