Odion Jude Ighalo finally made his much-awaited debut for Manchester United in their 2 – 0 victory against Chelsea last night at Stamford bridge. The 30-year-old Nigerian made a cameo appearance from the bench as he came on in the 90th minute to play out the remaining 5 minutes of added time.

Ighalo looked in good shape as he looked leaner, lighter on the ball and sharp as he had a number of touches on the ball. He eventually got himself a goal scoring opportunity but failed to convert the chance. It would have been a dream come true for the boyhood Manchester United fan.

The Nigerian was an unexpected January transfer deadline day signing. The red devils were in the market for a striker due to the injury suffered by Marcus Rashford which would keep him out for months. With all possible deals for their initial targets failed, the club turned to the 30-year-old Changhai Shenhua striker who was then preparing for the forthcoming Chinese Super League season.

Ighalo has now become the first Nigerian to ever play for Manchester United. He would be looking forward to impressing during his 6-month loan spell and eventually try to force a permanent move and create competition for Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.
