La Liga has given FC Barcelona permission to sign a player who is regarded as an “emergency player” who is without a club or already plays in Spain. The request has been granted due to the long term injury sustained by Ousmane Dembele which would keep him out for the rest of the current season.
The troubled French winger suffered a setback during his recovery last week. He sustained a hamstring strain but further tests revealed he had suffered a muscle tear. Dembele had surgery on the 12th of February and will be out for six months. Luis Suarez is still unavailable and would be out of action for a further two months.
The Uruguayan striker had an operation in his right knee to treat an injury to the lateral meniscus and would be out of action for about four months. Due to the lengthy injury layoffs of Dembele and Suarez, Barcelona is left with Messi, Griezmann and seventeen-year-old Ansu Fati as the only attacking options.
The Catalan giants, therefore, have a 15-day period to sign one player of their choice. Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose, Deportivo Alaves’ Lucas Perez, Real Betis’ and Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez have been singled out as potential signings.
The next few days would certainly be interesting for title-chasers who are in a two-legged horse race with their bitter rivals from the country’s capital.
