US Lawmakers kick against returning Abacha's $320 million loot to Nigeria

The Socio-Economic and Accountability Project Group (SERAP) has announced a 7-day ultimatum for the sitting President, Muhammadu Buhari to account for up to $5 billion in stolen funds by the now Lt. Major General Abacha since 1999.

According to a statement, the Accountability group states that two FOI documents have been tendered to the Minister of Finance,
Zainab Ahmed and the AGF, Abubakar Malami due to concerns that part of the recovered funds may have been re-looted or diverted.

“Publishing the details of projects on which Abacha loot has been spent would allow the public to know the specific projects carried and the areas of the country in which the projects have been implemented as well as the officials that may be responsible for any alleged diversion or mismanagement of the loot.” The statement read in part.
