The Malian troops arrived in Kidal, a town in northern Mali, to reassert the Malian government authority over the territory.
Kidal is said to have been under the authority of Coordination of Movement of Azawaad by ex-separatists since 2012 along with some other parts of northern Mali.
About 300 troops were sent into the town along with an escort of the United Nations Peace Keepers for easy mediation and agreement.
The arrival of the Malian troops in Kidal is seen as a crucial step to regaining independence and peace for the region.
In 2013, an attempt was made to regain the region by France government, the nation’s former colonial power, and the United Nations, peacekeeping troops were sent to negotiate and form an agreement with the separatists but the operation was unsuccessful.
It has been six years since the region has fallen into the hands of the separatists.
