The commissioner of the XFL, Oliver Luck, stated that the salary demands by Kapernick aided the swift end of negotiations to have the ex NFL 49ers star become a part of the revitalised XFL which is a spinoff of the NFL.

The XFL made its debut in 2001 but had a poor run as it was majorly influenced by ideas from the World Wrestling Federation now known as World Wrestling Entertainment. The founder of the XFL, Vincent Mcmahon, has vowed that the XFL will run independently of the WWE with its main focus being American Football.

The competition consists of 8 teams who are owned by independent groups. Nevertheless, all the teams are well funded as the average salary of a player in the XFL is $55,000. It has been reported that negotiations with Colin Kaepernick began last year when the controversial athlete requested for an estimated $20 million per year contract.

This year, Kapernick requested for more. Although the details were not disclosed. This did not sit well with the XFL commissioner, Oliver Luck as well as the other representatives of the 8 teams. This comes as a disappointment for both parties as they could have been of benefit to each other.

Colin Kaepernick has not played competitive football in two years since his controversial exit from the San Francisco 49ers due to some of his personal beliefs against racism. He also cut short plans to return to the NFL by refusing to take part in a behind closed doors trial where all the teams in the NFL get to scout players. He rather insisted to have a public workout session which he went ahead to do.

Participating in the XFL would have helped to revive the career and image of Kapernick who is a talented athlete. On the other hand, Kaepernick’s involvement in the XFL would have brought credibility and more attention to the XFL. Either way, this just seems to be another chapter in the controversial life of Colin Kapernick.
