Babakura Jato, Borno state commissioner for information reportedly announced during an interview on Monday, 10th of February 2020, that 1400 “repentant” Boko Haram suspects have been released by the Nigerian military and are being rehabilitated back into the society.

Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC) a program created in 2016 by the Nigerian government with the sole purpose of rehabilitating low-risk Boko Haram suspects is responsible for their release. These suspects undergo vocational training first through the operation, also psychosocial support and they undergo religious re-education.

This rehabilitation is open for both former Boko Haram fighters as well as abducted victims.
The Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC) establishment is situated in Gombe state, a state in the north-eastern region of the country. In mid-January 2020, the total number of insurgents reportedly released were about 608 insurgents.

There has been dissatisfaction by individuals over the Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC). According to these individuals, it is unclear if these insurgents tagged as low risk are truly low risk.

There is that possibility that they might be a high risk instead and the OPSC rehabilitations is nothing but a sham putting the lives of millions of Nigerians in even bigger danger.
