The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has identified community policing as the panacea to the rising insecurity challenges nationwide.
Mr Adamu who appeared before the Senate urged lawmakers to throw their weight behind the concept saying community policing will get every Nigerian involved in curbing crime and criminality.
He says the Police is determined to initiate reforms that will make its approach to tackling insecurity more community-oriented.
This comes at the wake of the South Western Governors launching Amotekun, to which after much criticism, the Coalition of Northern Groups unveiled the Northern Regional Initiative code with the tag – Shege Ka Fasa which has a lion on its emblem.
We’re curious as to what wildlife animal will appear on the other security artefacts to be launched by the remaining parts of the nation.
It is not clear whether the IGP is trying to consolidate with the newly ushered security networks or is pushing for the Police Force to change strategy. Another source for confusion is really how the newly ushered security network will work concurrently with the existing force.
