As predicted by political observers, Donald Trump, the 45th U.S President was victorious on both counts of his impeachment trial after the Senate voted.
Trump was facing charges of Abuse of Power, involving pressuring the Ukranian Government to remove rivals from the party and the second charge, Obstruction of Congress. Both which failed to meet the 67-vote threshold for removal from office after his impeachment.
The Republicans hold a majority in the senate and were able to prevent what would have been a major outfalling for the U.S President. Only one Republican, Mitt Romney voted to remove Trump from office for the abuse of power charge in the trial. Making Romney the only Senator in all of American History to vote against his party in an impeachment trial
The Democrats were of course not happy with the results as according to Senator Chris Murphy, the president won a “Show Trial”
Donald Trump had for the previous 5-months been embroiled in this trial which made him the 3rd President in all of American History to face an impeachment trial. It is no small feat as later today, as disclosed via his twitter account, Trump will be giving a national address on ‘our Country’s VICTORY on the Impeachment Hoax’ Today!’
