The Coronavirus has reportedly spread across borders to Angola after a Chinese citizen who had visited Angola was suspected to have been infected with the Virus. Sílvia Lutucuta Angola Minister of Health announced on Wednesday, January 26 that a Chinese citizen identified as Luanda has been admitted into Girassol Clinic on the case of being infected with the coronavirus.
At a conference, one of the officials made it known that Luanda arrived 12 days ago from China with extremely high fever and cough. This aroused fears and suspicions. The Minister of Health also related to the public that all those who had physical contact with the patient from his moment of arrival have been contacted to undergo medical examination and check.
The number of people that were in contact with the patient remains undisclosed. As tension rises over this unfortunate incident in Angola, Silvia Lutucuta admonishes the citizens to remain calm and steady their minds as the health sector is prepared to handle the situation. The health sector also promised to give a pronouncement on Luanda’s health condition as soon as there is an update.
The Angola government is not sitting with folded arms as they devise means and plans of curbing the spread of the virus. The plans include putting preventive measures in place at the points of entry into the country. Like Ports, land borders stop with a huge flow of people and even making thermometers available at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport.
Thermometers would be used to check for high fever as people arrive in the country. High fever, cold and cough are easily spotted early signs of the coronavirus. This cold worsens to become Pneumonia. Luanda’s case in Angola happens to be the first recorded break of the virus in the Southern African Region. So far, the death poll increased to 170 and there are still over 7,700 cases of the coronavirus
