President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that the appointment for the new Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board has been put on hold. This information came to light when the president penned a letter to the senate which was revealed by the President of the Senate, senator Ahmed Lawan.
The letter from the president was allegedly received on the 11th of January 2020 although the letter was penned on the 27th of December 2019. President Muhammadu Buhari said the new board will resume after the forensic audit of the 15 nominees of the NDDC is completed, then afterwards the new board will be confirmed by the senate
The nominees of the NDDC were; Dr Pius Obudu (Edo) the chairman, Otobong Ndem (Akwa Ibom) executive director projects, Bernard Okumabga (Delta) Managing director, Maxwell Okoh (Bayelsa) Executive director finance and admin, Victor Ekhatar (Edo), John Erue Delta state representative, Nwogu Nwogu (Abia), Theodore Allison (Bayelsa), Olugbenga Elema (Ondo), Maurice Effiwatt (Cross River), Victor Antai (Akwa Ibom), Aisha Muhammed (Kano), Badmus Mutalib (Lagos), Ardo Zubairu (Adamawa), Uchegbu Kyrian (Imo).
The former president of the Movement of Survival of Ogoni People, Ledum Mittee has released a statement saying he believes this is just another attempt to play politics with the development of the Niger Delta region.
