According to the 2019 Corruption Perception Index by Transparency International, Somalia takes the lead as the most corrupt country globally with other African countries such as Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau.

Generally, more than two-thirds of the countries globally scored below 50% with the average at 43%. In addition, of the 180 countries analyzed, little or no improvement in tackling corruption was evident.

Globally, New Zealand, Denmark and Finland remain the least corrupt countries globally, while Seychelles, Botswana, Cape Verde, Rwanda and Mauritius are taking the lead within the continent.
