The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has stated that laws do not emanate from the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and as such Malami can only advise and that advice will be taken into consideration.
The recently commissioned Western Nigeria Security Network popularly known as ‘Amotekun’ by most South-West governors to help combat insecurity was tagged as illegal by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
The statement read in part that ‘The settling up of the paramilitary organization runs contrary to the provisions of the Nigerian law.
The security outfit has been met with mixed reactions with some having reservations while others openly welcomed the gesture. Prof Wole Soyinka reportedly referred to the initiative as a worthy response to the yearnings of Nigerians.
