The unemployment rate in Hong Kong which happens to be seasonal has increased to 3.1 per cent from August to October in 2019.

This, however, has affected several sectors. Due to this, the overall economy continues to weaken and the unemployment rate is still under pressure.

August to October, the unemployment increased to 3.1%, this was formerly at 2.9%. This increased by 0.2% subsequently, the unemployment rate in Hong Kong rose by 0.2% which got it high up to 1.2% during the same period.

Law Chi-Kwong the secretary for Labour and Welfare said “The unemployment rate will be under increasing upward pressure as local social incidents involving intensifying violence continues to take a heavy toll on the economy,”
