It was confirmed on Sunday by the Lagos State House of Assembly that there won’t be a repeal concerning the State pension law. This pension law is allowing Public officeholders and the former governor to receive pensions from state coffers.

Pensions were withdrawn from now serving Ministers and members of the Assembly who were former governors as ordered by the Federal High Court.

As directed by the Court, Abubakar Malami the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice is to tackle and also check how legal this state pension law is. However, Braimoh frowned at the decision of the Court ordering Malami to recheck the legality of the law.

Braimoh is in support of the Former Governors receiving a pension and also collecting allowances in their new political offices. He defended that as long as the law didn’t trample or go against the constitution, nothing should make the Court go against the law.

Since there is also no law stating that state assemblies do not have the right to make a law that benefits the society in which they are in.

Braimoh further argued that since the legislature made the law, no other arm of government is allowed to refute the law. And that only another legislature can come to revisit this law.

“The Supreme Court had made it clear several times that no arm of government can repeal the constitutional provisions of another arm of government. Buraimoh stated.
