There have been many art exhibitions but none as dramatic as the recent one at the Art Basel in Miami.

This was is of spectacular importance because first off, a piece of Banana titled “Comedian” by Maurizio Cattelan is making the world globally reconsider what art is and what’s more, eaten off during exhibition by David Datuna further sparked controversy on the worth of the grocery bought Banana which was dutifully replaced.

Since the exhibition, many people have drawn inspiration from the duct-tape suspended banana and have gone ahead to pin bagels. Some even photoshopped the U.S President with an inordinate amount of tape to the wall all with different titles.

For Mr Datuna who ate the piece of fruit, here’s what he had to say of his actions on Instagram

“Hungry Artist,” writing: “Art performance by me. I love Maurizio Cattelan artwork and I really love this installation. It’s very delicious.”

His actions eventually inspired the art piece which was sold three times for a cumulative sum of $390,000, by the way, to be removed from the exhibition on Sunday due to the health and security risk from the sheer number of people that wanted to see just the artwork.

On debates on whether the Duct-Taped and now eaten Banana has lost its value, the gallery responds that eaten or not, the artwork’s monetary value suffered no consequence as it is the concept of the taped fruit which comes with a certificate of authenticity from the artist along with installation instructions, not the Banana itself that was sold.

The Gallery also sold two other pieces to museums with certificates from the Italian artist.
