Uber has lost its operating license in London today after the city regulator disclosed that the hail riding service exhibited ‘patterns of failure’ concerning safety and security.
In further details, the report showed that Uber allowed for unauthorized drivers to upload their photographs to other driver’s accounts and thus pick up passengers as if they were the booked drivers themselves based on the feedback from Transport for London.
The regulator disclosed that there is no confidence that those similar issues will not reoccur in the future hence the need to withdraw the license.
Uber has disclosed plans to appeal the decision stating that measures have been put in place to set the standards when it comes to safety. Read a statement from Jamie Heywood, the Head of the Northern and Eastern Europe region.
“We have robust systems and checks in place to confirm the identity of drivers and will soon be introducing a new facial matching process, which we believe is a first in London taxi and private hire.”
