Borussia Dortmund has extended their cooperation with kit manufacturer Puma with a lucrative new sponsorship deal to 2028, the Bundesliga club said Thursday.

“For many years Puma has been more than a supplier and a sponsor for BVB; it has been a heavyweight in the shareholder structure of our club too,” club chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said in a statement.

“Our partnership has grown and extends far beyond the boundaries of a normal business relationship. We would like to add another chapter to our joint success story in the coming years.”

Dortmund did not put a value on the deal but Kicker magazine and the Ruhr Nachrichten paper said it had trebled to around 30 million euros (33.2 million dollars) per season.

The quarter-billion-euro contract was described by Dortmund as a “milestone on the path to establishing itself among the leading top 15 in Europe.”

Puma has supplied Dortmund’s kit since 2014 and their previous deal was due to expire in 2022.

However, while Dortmund has dramatically improved their agreement it still falls well short of the reported 60-million-euros per season Adidas pay Bayern Munich.

And that does not compare to the even larger sums banked by Manchester United in the Premier League and Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The record European champions Real reportedly have the biggest kit deal in the world though Adidas has denied media reports it comes in at as much as 120 million euros per year.
